LGPL License is OK

Postby ebswift » Thu Jun 23, 2005 11:03 pm

I was starting to have doubts about being able to LGPL the .Net port of WordNet, but it has come together now. There is permission from Malcolm Crowe to do this, and Princeton has indicated that as long as I am distributing their license text file with the port it is not a problem.

We can definately proceed unimpeded now, I look forward to project contributions.

A bit more of a scare with licensing has been put to rest. I wrote to the free software foundation to ask about the inclusion of Princeton's license with the library - if that was not allowed then the whole license was shot. But... it's all good news, the FSF replied with...

It's OK to include Princeton's license with the LGPL library. Just think of it as part of the "appropriate copyright notice' that the LGPL mentions.

So finally I think the library is clear of any licensing doubt.
